Have you ever tried reading the bible as if it were written for you? You know...putting your name in the verses...like God is talking directly to you.
Take these verses for instance.
Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Isaiah 43:1-3
If I read it as if He were talking to me here's what it would look like.
Fear not, for I have redeemed you, Kristina; I have summoned you, Kristina, by name; Kristina, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you Kristina; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, Kristina, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, Kristina's God, the Holy One of Israel, Kristina, your Savior.
Does it take on new meaning for you? We're allowed to do that you know. The bible is God's words to you.
Make it personal :)
